Hitler is invading Poland and Gone With the Wind is premiering, but Atlanta’s German Jews, including the Freitag family, are focused on the Ballyhoo — a lavish cotillion, the social event of the season. Boo believes it’s her daughter Lala’s last chance to find a husband. But Brooklyn-born Joe turns Lala down, and worse, turns his romantic attentions to her cousin. The extended family gets pulled apart then mended together amid romance, revelations and, of course laughter.
